Young Days is the fourth episode of the third season and the thirtieth episode overall of the Natsume Yuujinchou anime series. It first aired on July 26, 2011.

Summary

Midterms are over, and Natsume leaves on a trip with Nishimura, Kitamoto, and Sasada. He realizes that the scenery he's viewing from the train is from one of the places he grew up in, when he was passed around from one family to the next. He'd thought he didn't have any good memories of the time, but then he remembers what happened when he lived there...

Plot

The summer has arrived for Natsume and his friends in the school. After the exams, Natsume, Sasada, Nishimura and Kitamoto went to an art museum as outing. Upon his return to this house, Touko-san reminisced about her childhood days, which Natsume was envious about as he does not have any fond childhood memories.

The story begins to tell about a youkai on a tree whom Natsume had met when he was still young. The youkai found it bored that no human can see it, but it suddenly remembered about Natsume and how they met. It often scared young Natsume because Natsume can see it.

One day, Natsume was somewhat getting along with some schoolmates, which made him happy. But, due to being scared by the same youkai in front of these mates, which caused a small accident with him and the classmates, Natsume truly hated what the youkai had done. Both of them parted ways in an awkward manner.

The story then goes back to Natsume's point of view. After the trip to the art museum, Natsume made a detour trip to the tree to visit the youkai. The youkai was glad, able to tell that Natsume had met some kind people for he is now able to smile gently.

The episode ended with Natsume's thoughts, "If there is somebody that you wish to meet, then you are not alone anymore."
