The Letter From the Exorcist is the third episode of the fifth season and the fifty-fifth episode overall of the Natsume Yuujinchou anime series. It first aired on October 18, 2016.
Summary[]
Natsume receives a letter from Matoba, an exorcist whom he's had unpleasant dealings with in the past. The world of exorcists is a dangerous place lately, and Matoba wants Natsume's help. Natsume wants to refuse, but Matoba threatens to reveal Natsume's powers to his adopted family, which would spell the end of his peaceful life.
Plot[]
Natsume arrives at his house after school, only to find a strange letter addressed to him. Later, while out walking looking for Nyanko-sensei, he meets an inexperienced exorcist sealing away a youkai, the wind from which blows away the letter. He realises this, however, only after he finds Nyanko-sensei, who in turn, states that youkai was not sealed properly, and that it will break out within a few days.
The duo decide to ask Natori Shuuichi for help and so, visit his residence. There, even though the youkai manages to break the seal, it is caught again by Natori Suuichi.
Afterwards, when Natsume arrives home, he finds Seiji Matoba at the entrance, who blackmails him to come to a meeting of exorcists as he seems to harbor suspicions that only Natsume is capable of detecting yokai possession and is, as such, quite powerful, despite not being an exorcist. With no other choice, Natsume accompanies the head of the Matobas with Nyanko-Sensei in toe.
