Natsume continues his act as the god Houzukigami, so the moon splitting festival will end with his victory and the mountain will not be ruined, but his opponent Fuzukigami's servants have sensed that Houzukigami is not the true god, but a human.
After finding the beast for the festival and capturing it, Natsume returns to the goal, winning the contest. But Fuzukigami approaches Natsume and reveals his cover and asks where Houzukigami was and what did Natsume did to him.
Natsume successfully releases the god, but he is drained of all his strength. In his sleep, Houzukigami approaches Natsume and thanks him. Houzukigami reveals that in truth, he has become too weak to break the seal, let alone protecting the forest from Fuzukigami's famine.
Fuzukigami and the servants on both side appear, and he and Houzukigami agreed to end the festival. Fuzukigami tells Houzukigami that he is leaving and asks Houzukigami to come with him. Fuzukigami and Houzukigami, along with their servants, will leave the mountain in peace to go somewhere else. All gives their final thanks to Natsume before the end of the dream.
When Natsume wakes up, he is still at the festival grounds, lying against Madara. Suddenly, from around him, glittery wisps of light fly up like fireflies into the sky, which is in actuality Houzukigami and Fuzukigami leaving. Natsume is able to define two of the lights as the two gods, before the episode ends...
