The Days Eater is the first episode of the sixth season and the sixty-fourth episode overall of the Natsume Yuujinchou anime series. It first aired on April 11, 2017.

Summary

Natsume helps a youkai out of a pot, and as a "reward", is made young again. But Natsume is already young, and making him younger just confuses him and addles his memories. When he doesn't know who to trust, will he have the strength to know who his real friends are?

Plot

While out buying sweets for Tooru Taki, and Kaname Tanuma, who would have been coming to Natsume's house (the residence of the Fujiwaras), Natsume Takashi and Nyanko-sensei come across a strange, colliding sound from under a bridge. There, they find out that the sound was from a youkai, with its head stuck in pot, banging the pot against the bridge.

After helping the youkai separate his head from the pot, the youkai is revealed to be Days-Eater - a youkai known for the ability to manipulate the age of objects, or living beings. Hence, as thanks, he returns Natsume to the time when he was a kid in elementary school, and leaves instantaneously.

This leaves a very confused Natsume, as a young child, and an utterly puzzled Madara wondering what just happened, when, fortunately, Taki and Tanuma happen to pass by. The group decides to allow Natsume to spend time at Tanuma's place, in order to not worry the Fujiwaras. Madara then leaves in search of the Days-Eater in hopes that the spell can be reversed.

Natsume, still confused from the shock of the experience, is still suffering from disarrayed memories, and has issues trusting Tanuma and Taki. However, he soon overcomes these problems, and is comfortable with them once again.

Meanwhile, Madara, who spent the whole day searching for the Days-Eater, finally tracks him down by his scent. The Days-Eater then agrees to take back the spell (still not understanding why any human would not want to be younger) and reveals that the spell will fade by sunset. An exhausted Madara then heads back to Tanuma's temple, where he and Natsume doze off. The next time when Tanuma and Taki see Natsume, he is still sleeping, but now reverted to his original age, tired from the stress of having his age changed twice in the same day.
