Summary[]

Takashi's secret is found out by Sasada, the class president, during the "Trial of Courage." She asks for his help to find the spirit that lives in the abandoned school. Takashi denies the fact that he can see anything, but she won't take no for an answer. Meanwhile, the spirit, Shigure, captures the rest of their school mates, in fury of the school being torn down...

Plot[]

On his way to school, Takashi encounters a Kappa lying on the ground, dehydrated. Intially, he was going to walk past it but came back and dumped water on him, rejuvenating him. He is unaware that Jun Sasada, the class president, saw this or at least, saw that he was pouring water over nothing.

At school, Jun reminds him about the "trial of courage" at the abandoned school building, which will be torn down soon. He informs Jun that he does not really want to go but Jun is not taking "no" for an answer. Takashi ends up going and meets up with his classmates at the abandoned school building entrance at night. Atsushi greets him then points out his cat had followed him. Out of caution, he grabs Nyanko-sensei and demands to know why he is here. Nyanko-sensei answers him that this event is interesting and this is part of being his bodyguard. Takashi is not very pleased but warns him sternly that he must not talk in front his classmates.

Inside the abandoned school building, the trial starts and numbers are drawn to determine pairings. While waiting for his turn, Jun approaches Takashi and tells him about the legend of this building. The legend states that a long time ago, a god of blessing who loved humans and would walk among them in human form. However, a greedy merchant with lust for money, locked him in a basement and forced him to giving him blessings. The merchant became rich from these blessings, while the young god remained trapped in the basement, his resentment and hatred towards humans grew. Driving him to became an evil youkai. The merchant's house became cursed and eventually, a school building was built on in its place. The very building they are currently in. It is also said the evil god still roams the area. When asked why she was telling him this, Jun simply answers, "no reason." And walks away.

Back to the number drawing, everyone is asked to reveal their numbers but one of the number's missing. Causing some of the students to panic. Nyanko-sensei himself is unable to detect youkai, presumably because the god that was mentioned is incredible powerful and can hide his existence from him. He scurries off somewhere as he finds this interesting.

The trial begins and Takashi is paired up with Satoru. Both encounter a girl standing in the middle of a hallway, her back facing them. Satoru tries to strike a converstaion with her but when she turn around, "she" only has one eye and smiles creepily. This frightens Satoru, which causes him to fall him back onto Takashi. The two of them fall down the stairs, knocking them both unconscious. Takashi awakens first but Satoru remains unconscious. And the very youkai Jun spoke about was now standing before Takashi. He notes that Takashi's face is very familiar. His hatred towards humans is very prominent, noting how their greed caused him to become impure and now, they are taking away his home. His hand reaches Takashi's face but before he could do anything, Jun calling out Takashi forces him to teleport away with Satoru in tow. Jun then asks Takashi if she had seen Atsushi, whom she was paired with. She also then mentions group one had also disappeared to which Takashi realizes that the god is the one who is taking them away. As Takashi is wrapped in him thoughts, Jun is carefully observing him and asks who he was talking to earlier, as no one was there. Then directly states that he can see them, based on his strange actions when nothing is there. This shocks Takashi and he is left speechless, inwardly panicking.

She promises she will keep his secret and asks for his help to find the spirit that lives in the abandoned school. Before she can pry any further, Nyanko-sensei headbutts her and knocks her out (mistaking her for a youkai), much to Takashi's relief
