Mikuri (みくり) is Santou's best friend who ended up being possessed by an evil force in the area of his swampy homeland Kiriganuma, but eventually recovered with the combined aid of the late Reiko Natsume's one and only grandchild and his feline familiar half a century later and finally made up with Santou in his own way.
Appearance[]
When he was in the beast form, his appearance was the same as his true catfish form quite but larger.
Personality[]
He seemed to be short-tempered, as he easily got mad when Santou gave his name to Reiko without a second thought. He cares a great deal about Santou even though he never showed it in front of Takashi and Master Kitty-Cat.
History[]
It's never mentioned how long Mikuri and Santou have been friends, but it's implied that they've known each other for centuries. One day, Santou fought Reiko Natsume and lost to her and gave her his name, which angered Mikuri.
They both got in an argument, which ended with Mikuri telling Santou that he never wanted to see him again.
Plot[]
It's never stated, but some time between his argument with Santou and Takashi Natsume bringing Santou back, earth spirits possessed Mikuri by feeding off his intense fury towards Santou for letting his name fall into the hands of a mere human girl without a second thought, thinking he had forfeited his pride as a yokai.
His form was changed from the small black creature to a giant catfish with large tendrils that could grab anything. He tried to snatch the Book of Friends, but Santou intercepted it and tried apologizing to Mikuri. Mikuri ignored him and started attacking him.
Thanks to Madara's aid, Mikuri was restored to his original, smaller catfish form and made up with Santou but not before chastising him for letting a mere mortal best him so easily. They currently reside in the mountains and are getting along much better now.

Santou[]
Upon hearing that his best friend had lost a duel to a mere human and had his name taken by her, he was so furious at Santou's stupidity and abruptly ended their friendship and returned home to Kiriganuma.
Takashi Natsume[]
He was not amused upon meeting Reiko's only grandchild and descendant, thinking that was just like his grandmother. He chastised Santou for thanking Natsume for returning his name to him in Reiko's stead, as he is a mere human.
