Mana Kitamoto (北本 真奈, Kitamoto Mana) is a minor recurring character of Natsume's Book of Friends series.
She is the younger sister of Atsushi Kitamoto and a middle school student.
Appearance[]
Mana has brown hair tied into a short ponytail with dark brown eyes. She has a fairly normal complexion and is only seen wearing her sailor uniform.
Her uniform consists of a white shirt with a red collar, a yellow ribbon and a maroon coloured skirt. She had been wearing black shoes and white socks before entering the house.
Personality[]
Mana seems to be an extremely carefree person, even dismissing the fact that she had woken up her ill father. Stating that Atsushi shouldn't worry about him waking up, she proceeded to say a new doughnut place opened nearby and asked her father which one he would like, offering to get some for him.
Atsushi scolds her saying that they haven't eaten dinner yet and their mother will disapprove of this and get mad at her. She also dismisses this saying to not worry about it and that she'll get a doughnut for her too.
Despite her actions, she gets along well with her family and loves them all.
She prepares boxed lunches (bento) for her brother Atsushi although constantly prepares his food using several different shapes, hence, another point at her personality. However, Kitamoto states that he wants her to stop with the shapes and just fill the lunchbox. Nishimura becomes envious, commenting how he wished he had a little sister to make him boxed lunches as well.
History[]
Mana Kitamoto is the second and youngest child of the Kitamoto family. Her family is composed of her father, her mother and her older brother, Atsushi Kitamoto, who is either one, two or three years older than her. She also has a grandfather who doesn't live with them, and an uncle and aunt who lives next to the sea, although it is unknown whose side of the family they're from.

Her brother's new friend. Not much is known about their relationship, but it seems the two have met. It is not know what Mana thinks of him, but Natsume calls her rather familiarly "Mana-chan."

Etymology[]
- The name Mana means "real, genuine" (真) (ma) and "apple tree" (奈) (na).
- Mana's surname Kitamoto means "north" (北) (kita) and "base, root, origin, source" (本) (moto).
Trivia[]
- It is implied that Mana might like doughnuts, especially since she was so intrigued to go to the new doughnut place that had opened nearby.
- Until now, it has never been revealed that Atsushi has a sister as he never mentioned her. Thus, this is her first appearance within the manga and the anime, likewise to Nishimura's Brother.
